Review "This family's journey is an inspiration and a perfect example of Divine intervention. Would that we all had the patience, the unconditional love, the tenacity and the good humor to do for humanity what Hector and Sue Badeau have done. It's got to be read to be believed". Lucie Arnaz and Larry Luckinbill, award-winning actors of stage and screen

"Hector and Sue Badeau love big and love well! Are We There Yet? chronicles the Badeau's journey of caring for orphaned and vulnerable children - a journey that hasn't always been easy. However, the Badeau's decision to love has forever im- pacted the lives of their children and their story will inspire you and leave you asking, 'How might I, too, love bigger and love better?'" Mary Beth Chapman, Co-Founder and President of Show Hope, Author of New York Time's bestseller Choosing to SEE

"The Badeaus are heroes to children. Having spent almost ten years in foster care, I know what it is like to be waiting for a forever family and there are so few who will take on children of any age, color, or need.  The Badeaus have not only raised 22 children, they helped thousands of children a year find safe, loving forever families."
Ashley Rhodes-Courter, Author of the NYT Bestselling book Three Little Words

There are very few people as limitlessly generous, determined, and bullheadedly optimistic as Sue and Hector Badeau. The story of their family is the story of humans doing an astonishing and wonderful thing which seems impossible until somebody does it, like running a four-minute mile. But now that they've shown us the way in this book, maybe, as with the four-minute mile, others will follow. Larissa MacFarquhar, The New Yorker

"Welcome to Sue and Hector Badeau's glorious journey.  A profound and thrilling chronicle of what it truly means to be fearless in the mission of aiding America's most vulnerable children on the journey from darkness into the light.  A story that resonates in the hearts and minds for us all.  Simply  beautiful." Janiva Magness,  Blues and Soul singer and Spokesperson for National Foster Care Month/Save a Lifetime Campaign and Ambassador for Foster Care Alumni of America.

From the Author Recently, as we drove 6 young grandchildren to summer camp, we heard a sleepy voice in the backseat asking, "Are we there yet, Nanna?"”

"Not quite yet, just a few more miles to go."” Poppa replies.  Moments later, our GPS confirms his prediction as it  announces, “You have arrived!” “

Are we there yet?” How many times have we heard these words while raising 22 children?  And now grandchildren are chiming in!   How many times did we ask our own parents while growing up in Vermont? “Are we there yet?” How many times have we asked  God this very question, hoping for that answer “You have arrived!”?  Have we completed our family?  Have we arrived in our careers?  Are we there yet spiritually?  God’s answer is always “Not quite yet – you have a few more miles to go . . . . “

We wrote this book in the months after our son Wayne passed away, desiring to leave a lasting legacy in his honor and that of his brothers Adam and Dylan who preceded him in death.  We were also hoping that the ups and downs and twists and turns of our journey would inspire, inform and intrigue readers enough to begin exploring more deeply their own life journeys. It is the story of one family - ours - yet at the same time we highlight many of the challenges that communities, policies, churches, neighborhoods and civic leaders can address in constructive and supportive ways - issues related to childhood trauma, children with disabilities, racial disparities, and many more.  We hope you will enjoy the journey as you travel with us!
