From School Library Journal Gr 9 Up-These books offer information, tips, and advice in a breezy style. The first title discusses the importance of values and such topics as law and partisanship, questionable hiring practices, and social networking posts. Questions are raised for discussion and thought rather than to demonstrate right and wrong answers for different ethical scenarios. The second half of the book has practical advice and lists dos and don'ts for acceptable behavior and achieving a professional appearance. Job Tracks presents one-page descriptions of careers, including agricultural scientist, nurse anaesthetist, military-intelligence specialist, and robotics engineer, with the text divided into sections labeled "Skills," "Education," "Financial Factors," "If I Could Go Back," and more. The jobs are not presented alphabetically or grouped by categories, but they are indexed by "career pathways." In Work Words, job, business, and career-related words or phrases are grouped into categories: "Acronyms," "Interview: Job Search," "Legal," "Manufacturing...," and so on. With no index, readers must look through all sections to determine whether or not a term is included. These titles are optional purchases. Richard Nelson Bolles and Carol Christen's What Color Is Your Parachute? for Teens (Ten Speed, 2006) is an excellent, organized job-hunting resource and Susan Morem's 101 Tips for Graduates (Checkmark, 2010) offers a wealth of essential skills and straightforward advice for post-high school or post-college students.-June Shimonishi, Torrance Public Library, CAα(c) Copyright 2013.
